Refracto Technologies Corp. combines conventional machining with advanced hole, sinker, and wire EDM technologies to tackle any project you require. Utilizing wire, hole, and sinker machining in New York enables our machining specialists to provide one-stop EDM shopping for our customers. We manufacture parts to specification from raw materials and provide value-added specialty machining services for customer-supplied parts and components.
Types of EDM:
About Wire EDM
Wire machining, or wire EDM, achieves precision cuts in thick metal using the electrified current discharged by a taut, thin metal wire fed into dielectric fluid. The thin, traveling wire acts as the cathode and allows precision cuts into the metal workpiece.
About Sinker EDM
Also known as plunge EDM, sinker machining can produce difficult configurations through wire-cutting and complex electrode plunge-cutting. Its process is also automated for continuous production, allowing a single machinist to monitor multiple machines. This machining process is ideal for cutting materials that require sub-thousandths of an inch tolerance. Sinker EDM enables our state-of-the-art facility to machine high-quality parts, tools, die components, and molds.
About Hole EDM
Ideal for tool, die, and mold making, this machine-cutting process uses electrically charged electrodes to achieve odd or detailed shapes, corners, superfine finishes, curved holes, hex sockets, splines, gears, and keyways on hard-to-cut metal components. The shape from the electrode part is submerged in the oil-immersed workpiece, sinking the shape and not cutting all the way through the piece, if so desired. The electrode discharges pulsed electrical sparks that jump into the workpiece to erode out small pieces until the desired shape is achieved.
Some of the most commonly used electrode materials are brass, tungsten, copper, and graphite. Meanwhile, the workpiece can be made from any conductive material.
